NYSTEC Annual Summit to Focus on Climate Change and Resilience Planning for Communities Across NYS

Albany, NY –- NYSTEC’s 8th annual Population Health Innovation Summit (PHIS) on June 5, 2025, will focus on climate change and resiliency and explore innovative solutions, research and partnerships shaping New York’s climate future. Sherri Goodman, the Pentagon’s first chief environmental officer, sustainability and national security expert, and author of Threat Multiplier, is the keynote speaker.

“PHIS strategically highlights innovations that impact the communities where we live and work across New York State and features thought leaders discussing how to accelerate and scale the adoption of interventions that can have a broader impact on the state’s population,” said NYSTEC CEO Kevin M. Owens. “NYSTEC looks forward to bringing innovators and change agents together at PHIS each year, and the topic of climate change and resilience planning is one that affects us all. We’re thrilled to have such a respected keynote who can offer words of wisdom and actionable advice.”

PHIS 2025 will feature programs and speakers that are driving real-world impact and helping create a better future for New York’s communities. It is free and open to the public and is one way NYSTEC gives back to its communities.

Goodman is a pioneer in sustainability and national security and among the most respected international voices on emerging global risks, including energy and climate security, the environment and public health. Her accomplishments include serving as the Pentagon’s first deputy undersecretary of defense (environmental security) and leading efforts to transform the Department of Defense into a leader in sustainability, climate resilience and advanced energy.

An experienced “change agent” for large institutions, Goodman is recognized for her ability to blend a compelling strategic vision with operational execution to strengthen national security and mission readiness. Using her coinage “threat multiplier,” she is credited with educating a generation of U.S. military and government officials about the relationship between climate change and national security, fundamentally shaping the field of climate and energy security.

Goodman currently serves as the secretary general of the International Military Council on Climate & Security, the leading international organization for national security and military leaders on climate and energy security, and as a senior fellow at the Wilson Center. She is a sought-after speaker for domestic and international audiences, has taught and delivered lectures at numerous universities, appeared in several films, and testified before congressional committees as a leading authority on sustainability, energy, and climate security.  Sherri has also appeared on CNN, PBS NewsHour, BBC and NPR, among other major media.
