Boston: Utilities testing geothermal heating and cooling – By Christian M. Wade Statehouse Reporter – Gloucester Daily Times –“The state’s largest utilities are testing geothermal systems to determine if the renewable energy source could help reduce the state’s reliance on natural gas and oil to heat and cool Massachusetts homes. Eversource is gearing up to test geothermal heating and cooling systems at several sites around the state. One pilot project would be located in the Merrimack Valley, where a natural gas disaster in 2018 killed a teenager, injured dozens and damaged hundreds of homes… Meanwhile, National Grid has asked the Department of Public Utilities for permission to begin a five-year, $15.6 million pilot project testing geothermal heating and cooling in a number of homes and buildings. See the full article here.
