Arctic Refuge Defense Campaign

Passionate about protecting wild spaces, indigenous rights, and preventing climate change?

Arctic Refuge Defense Campaign: Upper Valley Kick-Off Meeting!

Thursday, September 19, 2019

Howe Library – 13 South St., Hanover, NH

The Arctic Refuge Defense Campaign is working in the Upper Valley to stop oil and gas development in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. In 2017, the tax bill contained a provision that opened up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in northern Alaska for oil and gas drilling. The Arctic Refuge is one of the largest and most intact ecosystems on planet earth, sustaining millions of birds, over 250 animal species as well as the nine thousand Indigenous Peoples of the Gwich’in nation.

Opening up the Arctic Refuge to oil and gas development would be catastrophic. It would not only imperil the amazing landscapes and biodiversity in the region, but would also contribute to climate change, and jeopardize a rich culture that has thrived for thousands of years. This is an attack on both the environment and on human rights.

The good news, is that it doesn’t have to be this way. We can preserve our spaces of wild natural beauty. We can protect this vital and largely pristine ecosystem. We can ensure the survival of the birds, polar bears, caribou, and the Gwich’in peoples’ way of life. Together, we can stop drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Join other concerned residents and local organizations Thursday night, Sept 19, 2019 for a fun event to learn more about the campaign, help us strategize how to win, and take action!

RSVP to let us know you can make it and please bring a friend!
