New York: Four Important Local Climate Events

1. Public Service Commission Hearing on new proposed gas pipeline: Wednesday, April 10 , 2-4 and 6-8
National Grid  has just publicly proposed to build a new fracked gas pipeline, called the Pipeline E37 Reliability and Resiliency Project, traversing Bethlehem, East and North Greenbush. (This plan has been two years in the making.). They have not documented this need nor have they analyzed non-pipeline alternatives.

There is only ONE Public Service Commission meeting on this proposal scheduled for Wednesday, April 10 at the Red Barn, 99 Town Park Road, East Greenbush, NY 12061 from 2-3 pm for an information session followed by a public comment period from 3-4 pm, then again at 6 and 7 pm respectively.

Comments can be sent by USPS letter, by email, by telephone or spoken in person. The deadline for comments is April 24.

2.  Climate Justice Countdown Statewide Rally: Tuesday, April 9, 11:15 am to 12 noon at Million Dollar Staircase, State Capitol Bldg, Albany, #ClimateJusticeCountdown Statewide Rally.

This event will support the Climate and Community Protection Act, which will comprehensively address the climate crisis by mandating a 100% renewable energy economy, create tens of thousands of quality jobs, and target funding to communities of color that have suffered the most from pollution. Legislative leaders in both houses support this bill; make sure they do it in 2019! Also, action at Governor’s office (2d floor State Capitol), at 1:15.  Sponsored by, among others, Citizen Action, NY Renews, SNYFGP. Registration appreciated at: bit.ly/climatejusticecountdown.
If you plan to come, we’d appreciate you registering at: nyrenews.org

11:15 am: Rally at Million Dollar Staircase, State Capitol (please arrive early to get through security – entering 10:45 or even 10:30 is recommended)
12 noon: Visit legislators in groups (we’ll split up into groups at the rally – not lobbying visits – they are “stop ins” – we’ll explain at the event!)
1:15 to 2 pm: Rally No. 2 at “War Room” Outside Governor’s Office, 2d Floor, State Capitol
2:15 to 2:45 pm: Lunch and plan next steps at Concourse Meeting Rooms 1 to 5

3. Climate Justice – from Puerto Rico to Albany – Saturday April 13 from 10am to 1:30pm
On Saturday, April 13 from 10am to 1:30pm, speakers will explore environmental and climate racism as it impacts our community and our friends and family members in Puerto Rico. Please join us to discuss action for climate justice.

Admission is free and lunch is provided. .  Click here to register. For more information: www.SHAREAlbany. org

4. DIVEST NY  – Tuesday, April 30 from 10am to 2pm
Legislative Hearing on S2126 and A1536, bills that would require New York State to divest it’s pension fund from fossil fuels. Not only is it imperative that we stop funding fossil fuels that are destroying the planet, but financially, it is irresponsible to invest in gas, oil and coal when the world is committed to transitioning to renewable energy.

Senator Krueger and Assemblymember Ortiz are holding a hearing on Tuesday, April 30 from 10am to 2pm in the Legislative Office Building in Albany NY. Divest NY hopes to fill the room to show support for this legislation. You may also want to submit written testimony or attend a few lobby meetings in the afternoon.
