Scam Alert:

Green Energy Times Posted on May 6, 2015 by George HarveyMay 6, 2015

NH Electric Co-op Members
Threatened With Disconnection

PLYMOUTH, NH – New Hampshire Electric Cooperative (NHEC) is warning of a telephone scam that seeks to defraud its members by threatening disconnection of electric service if an immediate payment is not made.

NHEC has been made aware of several attempts in the past two days to scam members and is working with local authorities to investigate the incidents.

The scam has targeted commercial and residential members. The caller, claiming to represent NHEC, warns the member that their account is past due and that their electric service will be disconnected if a payment is not received that day. In a number of reported cases, the caller ID is “spoofed” to show NHEC’s phone number. The member is then directed to make a payment to a specific account number at a payment location, usually a supermarket or other retail location that accepts utility bill payments.

NHEC is stressing that it never calls its members to threaten immediate disconnection, nor to demand immediate payment. NHEC sends a written notice to warn of a disconnection if an account is delinquent. If you receive such a call, or have concerns about your account, please contact NHEC Member Solutions at 1-800-698-2007.

NHEC is a member-owned electric distribution cooperative serving 83,000 homes and businesses in 115 New Hampshire communities.
