“How do we encourage renewable energy in Vermont?”
RUTLAND, Vt. – Get information. Be inspired. The GMP College Connections lecture series is hosting its next energy discussion Tuesday, February 3, at the Energy Innovation Center, 68-70 Merchants Row in downtown Rutland. The free public event begins at 5:30 p.m. and will last approximately an hour. Light refreshments will be served.
Dr. Steven Letendre, Professor of Economics and Environmental Studies, at Green Mountain College will lead a discussion entitled, How do we encourage renewable energy in Vermont? As Vermont lawmakers begin a conversation on how best to encourage renewable energy, efficiency, and innovation, Letendre helps us navigate this interesting and complex topic. He will address the question by providing attendees with background on the economics of renewable energy credits and an overview of renewable portfolio standard (RPS) programs in place around the region.
Letendre is also the Director for the Renewable Energy & Ecological Design (REED) program at Green Mountain College. He received his Ph.D. in Energy and Environmental Policy from the University of Delaware; his M.A. in Economics from State University of New York; and his B.S. in Business Administration from Bryant College (RI).
Letendre’s research involves the economic analysis of emerging environmental technologies. Letendre has published over 45 technical articles on a variety of energy issues. His research is referenced in mainstream media, including the New York Times.
The monthly GMP College Connections is a lecture series created as part of an agreement between GMP and all four Rutland County colleges to work together to bolster economic, educational and community development. Talks presented by faculty from each of the Rutland County colleges. The presentations will explore a variety of energy issues, including the science of energy, renewable power, financial concerns and the psychology of energy use. All talks held at GMP’s Energy Innovation Center in Rutland.
In addition to Green Mountain College, the other participating colleges are College of St. Joseph, Castleton College and Community College of Vermont (CCV).
