The e-Vermont Community Broadband Project is helping rural Vermont towns take full advantage of the Internet to create jobs, drive school innovation, provide social services, and increase civic involvement. e-Vermont is not stringing cable or fiber, but is working to make sure schools, businesses, municipal government, libraries, health and social services groups make better use of broadband where it is available.
Projects are already under way in the first 12 selected areas. Applications are now being accepted for the next round of 12 communities.
Groups in the first round of e-communities are using digital tools to work together in new and exciting ways. An online forum is helping them connect neighbor to neighbor, some students are getting free computers, seniors are picking up new skills, and small businesses are learning to reach a global market.
Twelve more towns will complete the e-Vermont network. If your town/community would like to apply for the second round, now is the time – potential applicants should prepare well in advance of the November 17 deadline.
